The test serves to assist the student in choosing his/her academic path and verify his/her own aptitudes towards the specific degree programme

For the academic year 2017-18 the test has been designed according to the formulation proposed and approved by the Academic Board of the Department of Political Science

The test will take place on the same date and time for both degree programmes which are part of the Department of Political Science of the University of Pisa

Political Science
– Social Sciences and Social Services

All students interested in enrolling in either of these degree programmes including those who pass the admission exam at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna must take the evaluation test

  • Who is exempt from taking the test?
    Students who are already enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree programme of the type DM 270/04, or who have taken the evaluation test previously and who ask to be transferred from one degree programme to the other.
  • those who are already enrolled in a degree programme which was previously of type DM 270/04;
  • Students who have graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programmes or from degree programmes subject to regulations previous to DM 509/99

Date, time and location of the test
4th September 2017 10am

Candidates must arrive at 8:30am in order to fulfill the necessary paperwork.  You must bring a valid photo I.D. (such as your passport) and the receipt of having paid the test fee.

Students who have not signed up to the test nor paid the test fee will not be able to take the test.

You will be able to sign up to the test starting on 27th July 2017

How to sign up
Online registration

Registration consists in entering your personal details into the Alice portal.  When you have finished the system will give you a user name and a password.

While you do this, keep your tax code (codice fiscale) and I.D. card handy. Once you have entered your personal details, the system will automatically check the tax code and make sure it is correct: if it turns out to be incorrect, check if other personal details such as place and date of birth is correct.

If the system realizes that your tax code already exists, it means that you have already registered. You will have to recover your previous user name and password.
In order to take the test, it is not enough to just type in your personal details: you will then need to click on “Sign up to the evaluation test”

After you have registered your personal details, click on the label titled “Sign up to the evaluation test” then choose the test which corresponds to the degree programme you are interested in.

If you prefer to sign up at a different moment from when you register, you may do so but will still need to type in the user name and password given to you when you registered.

Note: even if you have already enrolled at the University, it is necessary to do the online registration and sign up to the test.

In order to take the test, you must pay 20 €  to cover administrative costs. Please do so using the customized MAV payment form which can be printed after you sign up to the test.
You can also print the MAV following these instructions:

-visit, click on “Login” and type in your username and password which were given to you after you registered

-choose the menu label titled “Tuition Fees”

-click on the icon which corresponds to the test you have signed up for

You can pay the MAV at any bank.

What to bring on the day of the test
In order to take the test, you must bring a valid photo I.D. (such as your passport), the university booklet -if already enrolled- , the receipt of enrolment in the test and the receipt of having paid the test fee.

Candidates who do not bring the requested documents will not be allowed to take the test.

Details about the test
The test is made up of 4 areas, with 15 multiple choice (4 possible answers for each question). Furthermore, one question for each area will be asked in English.

Political Science:
1.Historical-Political (6 questions)
2. Sociological (3 questions)
3. Legal (3 questions)
4. Economical (3 questions)

Social Sciences and Social Services:
1. Social Sciences and Social Services (6 questions)
2. Historical-Political (3 questions)
3. Legal (3 questions)
4. Economical (3 questions)

3 points are given for each correct answer, no points if you do not answer and you lose 0.1 point for each incorrect answer.

Test duration
The test will last for 60 minutes.

Consequences of the results
Students pass the test with a score of at least 21. Students who do not pass the test will receive a formative debit, which can be paid off in the following ways:

-participating in a day of training about the areas covered in the test
-participating in the recovery activities specially organised by the Department of Political Science
-passing the second session of the test

Students who do not take the test or who have formative debits must contact one of the professors of one of the core courses of the first year to agree on a study plan to pay off the debt.

Other useful information

At the time of enrollment to the test, students must indicate for which degree programme they are taking part. Tests for the two degree programmes take place simultaneously. The online enrollment procedure requires you to indicate which test you intend to take: it is not possible to take part in both of them.

A student may still enrol in the chosen degree programme even if s/he has not passed the test.  Students who may have a physical condition or special need, require assistance from staff or extra time to take the test must communicate this information and write to by the 25th August 2017

Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna
Candidates who have passed the admission exam at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna are not exempt from taking the evaluation test.
